Mexicans repel English invasion. Spanish teachers have gathered in Mexico to try to repel an invasion of their language by English words.
Teachers from almost every Spanish-speaking nation have got together to draw up a new online Spanish dictionary.
The Spanish Doubts Dictionary will show which English words can be used in Spanish, ruling out any that have a Spanish alternative.
Words like "chatear", meaning to chat on the internet, will be banned because it is based on the English word "chat".
Instead, Spanish speakers will be urged to use "cibercharla" or "ciberconversacion".
